The majority of OEM games used the 1/2 inch "thick" foam. The 1/8 inch "thin" foam was used in multi-disc cases, cases with thick manuals, and some late titles (for cost-savings). Either one will work good with any case, however, we've found the 1/8 inch foam allows cases to stay closed better, whereas the 1/2 inch foam tends to push these old cases (unless allowed to "compress" over time). We prefer the 1/8 inch foam ourselves for most cases.
NOTE: The 1/2 inch foam will likely need to be compressed in the case, i.e., placing weight on the case with the foam in it. The factory sealed these this way which forced the foam to conform. We highly recommend considering the 1/8 foam unless your case closes tightly and you are prepared to compress the case to create a proper fit. We typically use the 1/8 inch on old OEM cases and the 1/2only on newly produced cases (which are still able to close tightly).
